Whitney and Brad share a love of adventure and the outdoors. They’re pretty much always doing something, from hiking trails, to camping in the snow, to kayaking in the warm months. So of course, Brad popped the question in front of a waterfall. When they’re not outdoors, they’re either hanging with their two dogs and cat, or eating at their favorite pizza joint. When they contacted me about eloping, I was super excited that they wanted their wedding day to reflect their bond over a love of the outdoors.

When we met at the entrance to the trail in July, it was as if we’d stepped outside of NC, somewhere else where summer didn’t exist. It was cool like spring, compared to the sweaty temperatures we came from earlier that afternoon. The sun was in and out, and the clouds would descend in their mysterious misty fashion, shaping and shifting every second, then lift in the same way, allowing the sunset light to beam on us again.

By the time we reached the top for their little ceremony, the sun disappeared behind some clouds again, and we were left with the perfectly intimate, moody scene Whitney and Brad wanted. It was honestly magical! Right after their first kiss as husband and wife, it came back out to play, as if the sun was watching and waiting.
